Piet Hein Eek

Piet Hein Eek

Piet Hein Eek (1967) is one-man phenomenon. As a designer he seamlessly follows in the footsteps of designers such as J.J.P. Oud, Rietveld or Penaat. He is a phenomenal design engineer, which results in a distinct and clear design aesthetic.

Eek graduated from the Design Academy in Eindhoven in 1990 with a cupboard made of scrapwood. In a time of ‘decadence’ he chose simple materials and a sober design language. Eek designs (and manufactures) furniture that can still be recognised by his original choice of materials such as scrapwood, aluminium remainders, old doors and window frames. In addition to furniture, lighting and accessories, he also designs interiors for buildings. The Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and the Groninger Museum have dedicated exhibitions to his work. The Scrapwood cupboard he designed for graduation is still included in unaltered form in his and our collection.
